Why commission a painting with Above Treeline?
Capture your favourite wilderness spot
When you find a painting you love of a place you love, it’s an incredible feeling. That artwork can transport you back to those truly special moments spent in nature. It can remind you what’s important in life and inspire you to get out there and seize the day.
But what if your favourite spot is off the beaten track? If it’s not a well known spot, the chances of you finding a ready made print of it are low. That’s where I come in! I can work with you to create a custom made painting of the wilderness spot that makes your heart feel full.
Celebrate life-changing moments
Have you recently finished hiking a long distance trail? Perhaps you’ve bagged the summit of that peak you’ve been dreaming of for years? Or maybe you got hitched on a mountain top?
Commemorate a life-changing moment in the wilderness with custom artwork. Or celebrate the awesome achievement of someone you love.
Bespoke artwork makes a great gift
Stuck on a gift for a hiker? Gear is always an option. But then again hikers are usually pretty specific about what gear they use… And unless you’ve got a watchful eye on what they’ve got that’s wearing out, they’ve probably already got pretty much all they need. So perhaps it’s time to think outside the gear box!
And we all know: thoughtful gifts are the best gifts. Give a loved one the gift of a unique, commissioned painting and they’ll treasure it forever.
How do I commission a painting?
01
Get in touch
Tell me about your idea – and send a photo if you can. We can start a chat about the format and style you’d like and discuss colour schemes and other design features .
02
Draft & review
Once I have a good idea what you’re looking for I can create a mock up of the artwork, including the outline of the piece and a swatch of the main colours. You can then ask for changes before I start on the real thing.
03
Time to create!
I’ll give you a time scale for the artwork to be completed based on the complexity and size of the piece (and what else I’ve got on). And I’ll keep in touch to let you know how I’m getting along.
Custom options
Format
Choose the right format for your artwork. Standard formats include:
- Giclee print
- Original on canvas
- Canvas print
However, if you have something else in mind – painting on wood, for example, I’ll see what I can do.
Size
Are you looking for a huge statement piece? Or a small, delicate work of art? Or perhaps you want a painting to fit in a specific spot in your home?
I can help you choose the right size for your artwork, whether that’s a standard size (like 11′ x 14′ or 16′ x 20′) or a custom size that works better for you.
Style
Every artist has their own style. And if you want to commission a painting from me, I hope it’s because you like my style!
But I also want you to LOVE your artwork. And that means I want – and need – you to be involved in the creative process.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to commission a painting?
Because there’s so many variables, it’s hard to give a blanket estimate. It depends on the size and complexity of the painting, as well as the format. Once we have discussed the artwork you want to create, I will send a detailed quote along with the mock up of the painting for your review.
Does it cost anything to get a mock-up?
I’ll ask for a small one-off fee to deliver the mock up and quote for your commission. That will be taken off the full cost of the artwork if you choose to go ahead.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
You’ll need to pay 50% of the full agreed cost upfront to commission the artwork. This is a non-refundable deposit. The remaining amount will be payable once the artwork is created and ready for delivery.
Can you do any style of painting?
I’m first and foremost an oil painter. But I also create sketches in pen and pencil and watercolour paintings. I typically paint landscapes and nature close ups. My paintings tend to vary on the spectrum from more realistic to more abstract.
